YouTube is full of weird beat making devices and controllers. Case in point: the Monome 40h, “a reconfigurable grid of sixty-four backlit buttons.” Cool stuff.
More stuff here. (Thanks Thibaud!)

Looking forward to hearing everyone’s remixes.
ABC News has posted an interesting article on mash-ups, Greg Gillis (a.k.a. Girl Talk), and the current state of licensing and mash-ups.
I’m excited to report that not only is San Francisco’s Bootie going on again this weekend, but I’ll be spinning in the upstairs room with my good friends David X and DJ Tripp. Both of these gentlemen are amazing DJs that you won’t want miss — certainly worth every penny of the Bootie cover charge. At first I thought this was some sort of cruel April Fool’s joke, but it appears to be the real thing: EMI is dropping DRM. Come May, all EMI tracks in the iTunes music store will be available sans FairPlay for a 30 cent premium over their DRM protected brethren. The sound quality is expected [...]
I can appreciate almost any music genre, but I find myself reluctantly agreeing with everything in this article by J Ro recently posted on The Seminal web site. Hip hop isn’t dying, it just sucks.
Badly.
Nine Inch Nails recently released the multitrack session stubs for Survivalism, the latest single off their forthcoming album Year Zero. Apparently the plan is to release the multitracks for all the tracks off this album. The big drawback, though, is that the multitrack stubs are available in Garageband-only format at this point. See the news [...]
From the same masterminds behind Flip the Switch and Always Outsiders, Never Outdone comes Sounds Like Silver, an LCD Soundsystem bootleg remix album. Here’s the tracklisting:

North American Scum (Dunproofin’s Not From England Either Mix)
Someone Great (Shokking Shokkaboy Remix)
All My Friends (AMIGAMAN Remix)

After much anticipation, EMI has finally released Mashed, a bootleg and bastard pop compilation. Go Home Productions is the shining star on this all mash-up album that somehow has official major label clearance and support. I wonder how many lawyers it took to sort this one out? In any case, it’s not cheap, but it’s all top quality material. Hop [...]
Mixtape DJs Drama and Don Canon were apparently raided by “RIAA jacketed quasi-agents” this past week. Read more about the fiasco here, here, here, and here.
