I’ve been fiddling with this one for far too long. DJ Adrian gave it a test spin at last month’s Bootie and it went over huge. It’s had a few more tweaks and twiddles since then — hopefully for the better!
This one’s short and sweet. The vocal pairing of Ric Ocasek’s Just What I Needed over the instrumentation of The Ting Tings’ That’s Not My Name sounds surprisingly natural. If you’re a child of the 80s, you’ll like this one.
The Cars (”Just What I Needed”) vs. The Ting Tings (”That’s Not My Name”)

Don’t hesitate to leave a comment. I truly appreciate them. Thanks!
Update 7/14/2008: Simon made an awesome cover for me! Thanks, Simon.

This is excellent! I was only recently introduced to The Ting Tings, and am still undecided about them, but I love “Just What I Needed,” and this is a very well-executed mashup.
*great*. Huge fun.
It’s been a while since we had new material from you, and this proves it was worth the wait. Excellent job! Now the wait beings for the next piece…
this is great! Not my fave from you, but I’m not an 80’s lover that the reason;)
FUCK. YES.
Great job!
One minor correction: the vocal on Just What I Needed was done by Ben Orr (the Cars’ bassist). He also sang Drive, Let’s Go, etc. While Ric wrote the song, it was Ben doing the singing on your mash up!
Thanks everyone — glad you enjoyed!
Hey you should re-host the “Scrub the P.A.” MP3 because I used to have it and the MP3 link doesn’t work. I remember it was a great mash-up so could you please do something about this?
This mashup is great! Excellent job!
