Check out this short video tutorial demonstrating how to remove vocals from a stereo track. Technically speaking, it is actually removing center channel material and isn’t guaranteed to work all the time. However, it is an interesting technique to explore.
PS. Don’t mind the squirrel.

hey, sorry but i tried it with one thousand different songs and it didnt work for none…
yea i didtn work 4 none of the songs i tried this was a waste of my time
This works great with tracks that have instruments panned left and right and vocals in the center. It won’t work on most dance tracks.
Thanks Matt, very helpful tutorial works on most rock/pop/country CD tracks.
i tried it on a bunch of songs and it didn’t work at all. it seemed to destroy the instruments more than remove the vocals.
Mike, it won’t work well on all songs. The ones it does work nicely with are tracks that have distinct panning for various instruments. Track that have most everything panned center won’t sound good using this method — so most dance tracks and hip-hop are out. Classic rock, Beatles, etc. work well with these techniques, though.
Hello Matt, Im DJ NEXTLEVEL 18 years old, and SPIN EURO ALL THE WAY. I had a question about removing instruments with the DJm 600 knobs, and what ever it takes, and is there any program where it can remove the instrument and keep the vocals? I would really appreciate your help.
Hmm. Didn’t know that trick of lowering the volume and then bringing it back up. I’ll have to try that some time.
Don’t waste your time, have a good contact with the recorders and get PROMOS, it’s easier !!!
I’m making a new mashup !!!
