At first I thought this was some sort of cruel April Fool’s joke, but it appears to be the real thing: EMI is dropping DRM. Come May, all EMI tracks in the iTunes music store will be available sans FairPlay for a 30 cent premium over their DRM protected brethren. The sound quality is expected to be better, too.
I am actually quite excited about this. I have always thought the iTunes Store was a big joke with all the DRM crap they force upon the consumer. In this day and age of Genuine Advantage totalitarianism, it’s nice to see a major company do something pro-consumer. Thanks, Apple.
