Blog reader Brad recently wrote in wondering if I knew of any good tutorials on DJing with Ableton Live. I haven’t worked with Live lately as a DJ tool, but I did point him towards some of the tutorials that have been featured on Beatmixed in the past.
As luck would have it, however, another blog reader (Thibaud) wrote in to share some amazing videos of mash-up artist Moldover giving a live how-to on using Ableton as a DJ tool. The demonstration really is amazing — for example, Moldover shares his own personal techniques such as how he assigns his channel faders and color coding clips according to their harmonic key. The video is quite impressive — Moldover really is pushing the boundaries of digital DJ technology. Definitely check it out.

Ableton has at least one tutorial on their website (www.ableton.com). They also have a forum with severla posts that discuss techniques for DJ’ing using Live.
Yeah, you are indeed correct, although the tutorial on their web site is a bit dated. The forum’s on the http://www.abletonlivedj.com web site are probably a good place to hook-up with like-minded DJs.
Triggered by your post, commentary on the video, gear pricing and cheaper alternatives by Peter Forret (http://blog.forret.com/2006/09/moldover-live-mashup-dj/)
Great stuff! Nice to see how you’ve dissected his set up!
