It looks like the Sport Kit may do exactly what you do right now, only automatically.  If you're running a bit slow, the iPod could increase the BPM of the music to encourage you to run faster.  I posted some information on this feature on my blog here:

Also the Sport Kit will actually only cost $29.</description>

		<description>Spooky! I know when I run on a treadmill, I like to load up my music player with music at a BPM that drives me toward a target rate. I\'m chasing the music... rather than the music chasing my pace. Does that make any sense? Anyways, it will be interesting to see what it is like to run with something like this. Probably way too expensive for the average joe to afford, so I\'ll probably never know. :)</description>
