iPods with Tempo Control?

Beatmixed reader Scott recently tipped us off to an Apple patent which provides details about a tempo control feature. Could this mean that “real” beatmixing with an iPod is on the way?

  1. This stuff is more radical than just that - they’re actually going to measure your heart rate as you run, transmit it to your iPod nano via bluetooth and change the music according to your jogging plan. Enter the matrix willingly.

Spooky! I know when I run on a treadmill, I like to load up my music player with music at a BPM that drives me toward a target rate. I\’m chasing the music… rather than the music chasing my pace. Does that make any sense? Anyways, it will be interesting to see what it is like to run with something like this. Probably way too expensive for the average joe to afford, so I\’ll probably never know. :)

  3. mhite,

It looks like the Sport Kit may do exactly what you do right now, only automatically. If you’re running a bit slow, the iPod could increase the BPM of the music to encourage you to run faster. I posted some information on this feature on my blog here:

Also the Sport Kit will actually only cost $29.
