Numark recently released the iDJ2, their second attempt at a DJ mixer with integrated iPod support. This time they’ve included a tactile control surface and pitch control capabilities. What I find most interesting, however, is that one iPod is enough: the iDJ2 can access multiple songs on the same iPod simultaneously. I’m guessing this means that Numark sees the iPod as a hard drive and really nothing more. Having said that, an iPod isn’t even required: you can just plug a USB hard drive into the mixer and start spinning. Neat.

Interesting… I’d love to see the idea of using the iPod “wheel” controller as something to scratch & “spin” with.
When this takes off and clubs starts installing them I can finally leave my CD’s at home and bring any USB device with me to the club (which most people already are doing). But I’m guessing the functionality on this isn’t as good as current generation club CD players.. yet.
