Numark recently released the iDJ2, their second attempt at a DJ mixer with integrated iPod support. This time they’ve included a tactile control surface and pitch control capabilities. What I find most interesting, however, is that one iPod is enough: the iDJ2 can access multiple songs on the same iPod simultaneously. I’m guessing this means [...]
Mash-ups are fast becoming an important marketing tool. According to AllHipHop.com, “[a] $5 million dollar ad promoting Dr. Pepper featuring the music of Will Smith, Kiss, EMP and Cyndi Lauper ‘mashed’ together” is currently under production. It makes perfect sense for the marketing agencies to leverage the mash-up — the genre clash is bound to [...]

Thanks to Victor from Virtual Turntable for pointing out what appears to be another great audio extraction tool. The Audio Scanner VST is an “audio separation tool” developed in the Musical Technology Group at Pompeu Fabra University. I haven’t had time to try it yet, but it’s on my to-do-list.
Here’s an older interview with Mark Vidler, aka Go Home Productions, which appeared in the February 2004 issue of Cybersocket Magazine. Even though it’s old, I thought it was still interesting since the interview was conducted by Indie 101′s Smash Mix DJ Paul V.
Creative Commons is hosting another remix contest, this time for Mike Shinoda’s (of Linkin Park) side project Fort Minor. The prize for the contest is great: a Technics 1200 turntable!
