Skratchworx has just published their review of the Technics SL-DZ1200 CD turntables. They are reportedly plagued with distortion and lag problems — in other words, not ready for prime time!

I use the technics on Saturday nights and although I was at first very excited, after a few hours I realized it wasn’t all that it was cracked up to be. It lags when inserting a cd and this is major issue when trying to mix 3 minute rock songs. Many times i’ve had to loop the last few bars because the cd loading took way too long. I think this would be more suitable to house dj’s who can get away with playing 6 or 7 minute versions, but for anyone trying to beat mix mashups/indie/rock music, forget it, it’ll drive you mad!
We have the SLDZ1200 in our hire stock, there are a few issues as many people are aware, there are simple firmware updates which assist in the “digital distortion” issues when scratching. They are a very solidly constructed unit, have been appreciated by many DJ’s hiring them, not as sought after as the CD1000, but definetely a lot of fun for those who appreciate the real vinyl feel. I much prefer these units over the Numark CDX and similar units. Having a large jog wheel is also advantageous!
