Extra Boy is a VST which removes vocals from stereo audio files. It’s free and looks to be a great tool for your remix arsenal.

Anyone try this yet? I might check it out since there has been some chatter about this subject.
It’s a great tool - I used it to isolate the vocals of an old Ultravox (!!!) track that I remixed. It took quite a bit of time to get it right, but it works. I’d recommend breaking the original track down into small chunks (verse, chorus, etc) as ExtraBoy seems to like smaller file to analyse.
I’ll PM or email a link of the remix if anyone’s interested in hearing the result of using ExtraBoy.
Could you email me the link or post a link? Would love to hear it!

I actually just tried this… it’s nice. I know techniques for basically accomplishing the same thing with Sound Forge, but it is handy to have the real-time ability right there in a VST plugin.

shame.. no mac version… still need to use instrumentals and accapellas… =)
… btw, i dloaded a beastie boys accapella at http://www.beastieboys.com/ and made this with it… http://bacalao.ch/Resources/mp3/BeastieBoys-BacalaoMix.mp3
If you are on a Mac and don’t mind running Classic (or still own a Mac that boots into OS 9) the free Prosoniq Pandora RT (comes with sonicWORX PowerBundle and Studio) might be a good option. Suppresses voice in mono (!) and stereo mixes. Works fairly well, too, if the voice is not mixed with a lot of reverberation. Check it out at http://www.prosoniq.com -> Download -> Freebies page.
oh thanx! actually ‘ve already sonicworx, but never noticed that pandora… cool, will try! big up!
Unfortunately this is crashing in mixmeister. Obviously a conflict between mixmesiter, my VST wrapper and the trial version of Extra Boy.

While not perfect, it’s a great tool for extracting vocals. You’re not going to get perfect results, but sometimes it’s good enough to use.
Can someone send me this prog? My email is Thee_Mp3@yahoo.com. Thanks for the kindness!
You can D/L it here:

They charge 90 cents to download it.

Anyone know of a program that would isolate any part of a music track, like ExtraBoy does–but for a Mac??? The voxReducer posted above seems to be fairly limited…
