The Digital Music Report

30-Jan-06

The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) has issued their “state of the industry” report. It’s worth reading if you’re in any way interested in learning what “the man” is thinking… or not thinking.

PSP Drum Machine

30-Jan-06

This looks cool. If only I had a PSP!

Suck My DJ

30-Jan-06

The Pitch delivers an interview with DJ P, half of the production team behind the underground blend album Uneasy Listening (the other half being Z-Trip). There’s definitely the “blend is better than mash-up” attitude going on, something I find terribly alienating and disappointing to read. Elitist is what comes to mind — it’s the same [...]

Anything But iPod

22-Jan-06

Yes, there does exist a world beyond the iPod.

MiKO

22-Jan-06

This looks kind of neat — the MiKO is a “portable media workcenter” that includes an integrated computer, 37 key controller, and some sort of DJ mixer. More on the UK digital DJ license

22-Jan-06

20-Jan-06

Gideon Marken is the one-man machine (musician/programmer) behind ArtistServer.com, a music platform that provides blogs, podcasts, ringtones, mobile sites, streams, and track hosting to thousands of independent music artists. GarageSpin has a nice interview with him that’s worth a read.

Mylo Loses Hearing

20-Jan-06

Blogger Arjan Timmermans is reporting that dance hit producer Mylo has lost his hearing. I can only imagine how devastating this must be for Mylo.

Review of SL-DZ1200 CD TTs

16-Jan-06

Skratchworx has just published their review of the Technics SL-DZ1200 CD turntables. They are reportedly plagued with distortion and lag problems — in other words, not ready for prime time!

Beta Testers Needed

16-Jan-06

I’m looking for volunteers to help beta test a new web application that I’m preparing to launch. My only real requirement is that the testers are also mash-up or remix producers and have some material online and available for download. Why this is a requirement will make a whole lot more sense once you see [...]
