Dean Gray Tuesday

30-Nov-05

In response to the cease & desist order from Warner lawyers, supporters of the American Edit project are organizing Dean Gray Tuesday, an online protest modeled after Danger Mouse’s Grey Tuesday. Their plan is to organize volunteer web sites to donate bandwidth and distribute the album on December 13th, 2005 in an act of protest. [...]

American Edit Gets Cease and Desist

29-Nov-05

Rumor has it that Party Ben and Team9’s American Edit Green Day mash-up project got the cease-and-desist smack down from Warner after only 7 days online. No worries, though. It appears to be alive and well on BitTorrent.

Radiohead Remixed

25-Nov-05

Radiohead fans will certainly enjoy Me and This Army, a Radiohead remix and mash-up album produced by DJ Panzah Zandahz (say that 10 times fast!). Although he seems to be trying to sell it on his web site, there are plenty of other places to download it as detailed in this Boing Boing posting.

DRM Provider Pledges to Break Apple’s FairPlay DRM

25-Nov-05

I think DRM sucks, and I applaud any attempt to thwart it. It has to make you wonder, though, when one provider pledges to break another’s DRM scheme. Here’s an interesting twist on the tried-and-true DJ turntable: special buttons which pitch a record up and down the right number of semitones to allow the precise “playing” of the 12 note western music scale. DJs have been doing this for years with a careful ear and the standard pitch slider, but it is kind [...]

Mashuptown Calls It Quits

20-Nov-05

“The time has come to shut down this site,” says Mashuptown.com site operator. Mashuptown was a great music blog and podcast that featured 100% bootlegs and mashups. I’m not certain the reasons for abandoning the project, but I can only hope that they have nothing to do with legal troubles. In any case, you’ll be [...]

Green Day Mash-Up Album Released

19-Nov-05

I was wondering why I was hearing so much Green Day on tonight’s Sixx Mixx — turns out the entire hour was devoted to American Edit, a new Green Day mash-up album released by “Dean Gray.” It’s pretty obvious though that the Dean Gray moniker is a collaboration between team9 and Party Ben. Hope that [...]
