The Best Mashups In The World Ever Are From San Francisco

Best Mashups in the World Ever

Much to my surprise, I recently found out that one of my mashups is featured on a bootleg compilation CD that is available through retail distribution channels. I’ve even managed to get my hands on the press release which I have excerpted below.

Following in the footsteps of 2002’s underground CD sensation, The Best Bootlegs In The World Ever, this next installment in the series shifts its focus away from the U.K., and instead showcases the immense mashup talent currently coming out of the San Francisco Bay Area. Featuring a dozen of the Bay Area’s best DJs and mashup artists, The Best Mashups In The World Ever Are From San Francisco clearly shows why the City by the Bay has been dubbed the “epicenter of the American mashup scene.”

Proving that mashups are so much more than just another round of “rap rock,” these ingenious “bastard pop” creations delight in juxtaposing together different musical genres, forcing disparate artists into duets, and bringing new meaning and subtext into the songs. Whether it’s a hands-in-the-air dancefloor stomper, or a clever hybrid of two artists from different eras who wouldn’t even be in the same room together, there’s something here for everyone. More than just a novelty, these seventeen tracks show off the diversity and range of the bastard pop genre, and in the process, create something even greater than the sum of its parts.

The “second wave of mashups” has officially begun – and it starts with The Best Mashups In The World Ever Are From San Francisco. It’s available now at a music retailer near you or online at Juno. I’m still trying to hunt down an online retailer selling it in the US.

TRACK LISTING:
1. a plus d - decepta-freak-on
2. party ben - bizarre light triangle
3. tripp - maniacs emerge
4. jay-r - milkshake it up
5. dj john - it takes two to kiss
6. mei-lwun - sweet home country grammar
7. axel - lil’ brick house

14. stink - radio clash-up
15. tristan shout - we are all made of dead stars

BTW, I’ve heard the whole thing and it’s flawless. It’s a great representation of the San Francisco mashup scene, and I’m really proud to be part of this anonymous compilation. For more information on this compilation, email tbmitweafsf@mutemail.com.

  9. Hey Matt! I’m sure you’ve heard by now from GYBO, but if not, the current July 2005 edition of Remix magazine did a small write up on the Mash-Up CD. Very cool!!! I went to Barnes & Noble today, but they still have the June edition on the racks.

The title of this record is proof that San Francisco, and and it’s residents should be eliminated through slow biological torture.

    Have a nice day.
