Primal Scream Remixed

28-Apr-05

In the same spirit as Prodigy Remixed and Flip the Switch, some of the best remix and bootleg talent from the (mostly) UK have come together to pay tribute to and remix Primal Scream. Appropriately titled Screamixadelica, it’s available via direct download or torrent. Get it while you can!

Pimp My DJ Booth

28-Apr-05

With a pimped out booth like this, I certainly wouldn’t complain about a DJ gig at London’s Ministry of Sound.

The Anti-Edit

21-Apr-05

Download your copy of NWA’s Straight Out of Compton, minus the non-curse lyrics.  It’s a kind of anti-edit, I suppose!

Scratchophone

21-Apr-05

Check out this video of Scratchophonic’s strange but cool “scratch instrument” in action.  It’s called the Scratchophone, and it’s basically a turntable with an integrated mixer that hangs off the performer like a drum.

Loop Invasion

21-Apr-05

ACID Pro 5 crashes all the time and it’s driving me nuts!  Touching the scroll bars or zooming while a project plays nearly guarantees an abrupt crash and program termination.  Even though I save all the time, there’s nothing more depressing than having to restart and figure out what’s been lost since the last save.  [...]

Electric Guitar Turntable

18-Apr-05

Vestax has some sort of weird electric guitar turntable on demo at MusikMesse 2005. Looks like there is even some sort of mixer integrated into the base so the sound can be toggled for scratching. I can’t wait to see someone actually perform with this thing!

New NIN Single Available in GarageBand Format

17-Apr-05

Nine Inch Nails has made their latest single available for download in GarageBand format. However, for Windows users wanting to use the audio files, it’s a gigantic pain in the ass. As a service for Windows readers out there, I actually started writing up instructions on how to extract the SIT archive, mount [...]

Arizona Republic’s Z-Trip Interview

15-Apr-05

The Arizona Republic is running a short Z Trip interview, sprinkled with that special arrogance we’ve all come to know and love.  He even has a great chili metaphor to help explain why turntablists are real musicians and computer-centric mash-up producers aren’t.
Say you really like chili. You could go to store and get chili out [...]

Survival of the Fittest

15-Apr-05

This posting on Downhill Battle predicts the unavoidable shrinking of retail space for CDs and the ultimate death of major labels.  As the CD format becomes obsolete, the last hold majors have on consumers will disappear and create a competitive market comprised of independent labels.
Sounds good to me, except I believe that the “virtual” music [...]

iPod DJ Mixer

14-Apr-05

I can’t help but drool over this prototype of the Numark iPod DJ mixer — even if it is vaporware!  The “consumer” version will be $250-350, while the “pro” version with pitch control will  be available shortly thereafter for a currently undisclosed amount.
