Sad Fact: The Scissor Sisters have sold nearly 1,600,000 copies of their album in the UK alone. In contrast, the album has sold just over 150,000 copies in the US. I just saw the band play a few weeks ago in San Francisco and it was an absolutely amazing show. I guess their seemingly instant sold-out concerts here aren’t a real indicator of what the rest of the country thinks of them!

Is it not clear? When a majority of voters in 11 states vote to ban gay marriage how do you expect them to buy the albums of a “queer band”?
Because it’s better than half the shit in the charts today? Seriously though, Culture Club, Pet Shop Boys, Soft Cell, etc. were all successful bands that sold well in the U.S. during their peak. I think the largest factor is that they’ve not been a radio programming choice, and despite lots of club play, they are unknowns to the U.S. MTV generation.
