Kleptones Queen project reaching critical mass

Much like we saw with the Grey Album, the press machine has started their engines. EMI, again the victim of cruel & unusual remixing treatment (like … the Beatles) by the world’s most creative DJs (like … Danger Mouse), is raising the ‘cease-and-desist’ volume over the Kleptones’ Queen project. You’ve got to break the rules to make new rules, no?

  1. that is a seriously bad choice for a dj/production company name if your stance on remixing and mashing is that it’s _not_ stealing. it’s certainly not going to help your cause to appear before the courts with a company name that, while quite witty, does link stealing and music together. this reads less like a big bohemoth record company wielding the sword of copyright and more like a little kid with a big mouth _picking_ a fight.

  2. Hip Hopera is so much better than the Grey Album- I hope it does become widely known. I’m not slagging on DM, his production was inspired, but Jay-Z’s material wasn’t anywhere as consistent as what the Kleptones use. Of course, the complete mashup/remix style of the Kleptones allows more variety, and DM stuck to a one artist for intrumentals-one for acapella format, so it’s not a perfectly even battle. Anyway, I hope the Kleps keep on keepin’ on….
