Here’s an interesting press release that hit my email this morning. Congrats to Reset!
Beck, Pharrell Williams and Jay-Z have teamed up with New York City based DJ/Producer DJ Reset for the forthcoming “Frontin’ on Debra (DJ Reset Mash-Up)”.
“Frontin’ on Debra (DJ Reset Mash-Up)” marks the first American mash-up to be released by a major label. DJ Reset created the hybrid using elements of Beck “Debra”; Pharrell Williams feat. Jay-Z “Frontin’”; plus original drums and a “human beatbox” performed by DJ Reset.
The mash-up is already an underground smash, and bootleg copies of the track have already been receiving major-market radio airplay across the US and Europe.
3 time Grammy winner Beck is world renown for his handsome outfits and provocative dance moves. The original version of “Debra” was produced by The Dust Brothers and appeared on Beck’s “Midnight Vultures” LP released in 1999.
Pharrell Williams is one half of the 2004 Grammy award winning Producers of the Year “The Neptunes”, who produced the original version of “Frontin’”. The song appeared on the multi-platinum “Neptunes Presents: The Clones”, which peaked at #1 on the Billboard charts in 2003.
In addition to his guest appearance on “Frontin’”, Jay-Z has sold well over 20 million albums to date. Although he has been at the center of a lot of controversy relating to mash-ups recently, “Frontin’ on Debra (DJ Reset Mash-Up)” is the first one Jay-Z has approved for commercial release.
DJ Reset is also known as “The Mash-Up King of New York” (Time Out Magazine 1/04). His original mash-ups have become hugely popular via peer-to-peer sharing, and can now be heard regularly on 92.3 FM “K-Rock” – New York, 106.7 FM KROQ – Los Angeles, 89.9 FM KCRW – Los Angeles, 102.1 “The Edge” KDGE – Dallas, 104.1 FM KRBE – Houston, 104.9 FM “XFM” – London, and others. His breakthrough mash-up DJ sets have floored audiences worldwide at recent club appearances in New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Amsterdam, Miami, and Dallas.
“Frontin’ on Debra (DJ Reset Mash-Up)” is out soon on Interscope Records.
