My KRAFTWERK vs EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL bootleg has received a lot of great attention the past week or two on the web and beyond. Pick Me Up featured the mix in issue #6, saying “it’s like bringing a lovely, piping cup of tea into a cold, dark, empty room.” A very British analogy, I must say. Their weekly email newsletter is the effort of ex-Face magazine folks and it’s definitely worth joining the mailing list.
Another great surprise was to find the mix featured in the Anti-Hit List of the Toronto Eye Weekly. The reviewer, John Sakamoto, had this to say:
In addition to setting up one of the year’s more improbable aural blind dates, DJ Matt Hite has concocted an atypically understated mash-up that slyly humanizes the former’s emotionally petrified “The Model” while simultaneously displacing some of the greeting-card sentimentality from the latter’s signature hit. Toss in a few well-placed bursts of Yes’ “Owner of a Lonely Heart” as tangential commentary, and you’ve got the makings of a compelling curiosity.
So it seems people are talking about it, and I’m just hoping this means there are a few DJs playing it! In either case, thanks for the recognition and reviews — I really do appreciate it!
